DOTC Sec. Abaya on MRT Senate Hearing

                

                Recently, the Senate conducted an investigation about the real condition of MRT due to accident happened in August and because of their communication system breakdown. Commuters had been affected with this kind of trouble in MRT. That’s why the commuters challenged the government officials to ride in train to know what the real situation of our train system.

                DOTCSecretary Joseph Emilio Abaya complied with the appeal of the commuters. Instead to be applauded by the people, he had been criticized because they found out that he has no genuine concerns with their situation. Why? He didn’t ride during rush hour and he had many bodyguards. It seems that he is acting as VIP, not a public servant because one of his bodyguard holding an umbrella for him while he is walking on the street.

                Sec. Abaya was very different to Sen. Grace Poe. The senator also accepted the MRT challenge, but she had no bodyguard and she rode in the train during rush hour. See, Sec. Abaya, this is the right thing that you supposed to do to show that you have concern to the commuters. The senator has also experienced the sacrifice of the commuters when she rode in MRT. Hence, he realized many things, one of it that our train system is really a burden to the commuters. They are facing annoying moments like falling in line for too long. Beside that, the travel time of the train makes them sick because it is very slow. Sen. Poe reached her destination for almost half and a half hour. This experience pushed her to make a hearing on MRT situation.

                During the MRT Senate hearing, Sec. Abaya said that they already ordered a 48 new rain couches. For him, this is their way to solve their problems in MRT. But the senators who investigated about the derailing of MRT train, this is not enough. They need to think another solution to lessen the burden of the commuters. The public wants to see the government has an action and really care them while they are waiting for the new couches. As what Sen. Sonny Angara told to Sec. Abaya, he should have a holistic plan not only in MRT but also to other kind of transfortations. It means that Sec. Abaya  should extend his effort to improve our transportation system in our country. Okay let us wait what will be the action of Sec. Abaya after he undergone in Senate MRT probing.
