The
government has a plan to build a mega dike in Laguna. President Benigno S. Aquino
III boasted it during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 28. They
called their project as Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike Project. This will start from
the coastal area of Laguna de Bay up to Taguig in Metro Manila. P-Noy believed
that this is the answer to the flooding problem of the people from Laguna and
in some part of Metro. Not only that, it will also help to lessen the traffic
situation when they completed the construction of this mega expressway dike.
This project would cost around 36.7 billion peso. The government made an
agreement with the Public Private Partnership to do this big project. The
public has different reactions with this issue, Some of them are happy, but
there are also individuals doesn’t agree with this plan.
The
problem in this mega expressway dike, the Filipino people already heard this
project since 2012, but until now it is still just a plan. Although the
intention of P-Noy is good, other people believed that this is not a long term
solution to the flooding problems in Laguna and Southern Metro. I think, they
should study first the roots of the problem before they make any decision. Why
not they don’t make dredging rather than to build a huge dike? This is too much
expensive, but in dredging it is cheaper compare to their plan. Beside that it
is too long before they finish the construction of that expressway dike. Based
on their study, it can be completed in 2021. So, it is not practical to wait a
long period of time. What the people needs is a quick response to their
problem.
For
sure, not all people are happy with the plan of the government. Because there
are sectors that would be affected if when they already execute their plan, especially
the residences nearby Laguna de Bay. Does the government already consulted them?
I hope so... P-Noy has only two years in his position. Maybe this is the
reason, why he is making big decisions. Is this his way to leave a tangible
legacy? But what if the next president of this country is not interested in his
unaccomplished projects?
